Milk-producer price (payment criteria)
describes the remuneration (euro cents per kg) provided by the milk processor to the milk supplier and is calculated ex-farm based on content (fat, protein) and quality criteria (microbial number, cell count, inhibitors, freezing point). In June 2003, resolution was passed on a comprehensive reformation of the agricultural market - most notably with respect to the direct remuneration of suppliers independent of production aspects. Where the dairy sector is concerned, intervention prices for butter and skimmed-milk powder were cut by 25 and 15 percent, respectively. Payments for milk suppliers which are expected to compensate in part for the losses in earnings shall hitherto be entirely independent of production considerations but linked to environment-protection and natural-conservation criteria. Despite a surplus situation, additional milk-supply rights will be issued.
