Labelling for butter
Labelling for butter must include the following: name and address of the manufacturer or the seller, fit-for-consumption ID no., description for trading, use-by date, type of butter, fat content, weight, list of ingredients and the specification "salted" if the product contains 0.1 percent or more salt. The term "German proprietary butter" is an individual quality indicator. In addition to the aforementioned product references, packaging for German proprietary butter must also include a reference to the control authority, a reference to the German federal state responsible for conducting official controls as well as the quality reference "A proprietary product controlled in Germany".
